Rescue and Rehabilitation

Wide-scale poaching driven by the illegal wildlife trade is having a devastating impact on wild fauna across Vietnam. Recent surveys have shown carnivores and pangolins account for a large proportion of the wildlife seen in the trade, with growing demand and dwindling numbers pushing prices to an all-time high.

We work in close cooperation with the Forest Protection Department to confiscate carnivores and pangolins from the illegal wildlife trade and manage their placement appropriately. CPCP has rescued and rehabilitated close to 200 individual carnivores and pangolins of 11 different species from all over Vietnam. Seven species of carnivore and one species of pangolin have been released back into the wild following IUCN protocols. The centre currently holds six species of carnivore and Sunda pangolin, Manis javanica, and has facilities in place to rescue and rehabilitate all species of small carnivore and pangolin that are found naturally occur in Vietnam.
